‍Understanding Music Therapy

Music therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Trained and certified music therapists use music-based interventions to achieve therapeutic goals and improve the wellbeing of their clients. Music therapy is a versatile and non-invasive approach that can be applied to people of all ages and abilities.

Music therapy is employed in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, nursing homes, mental health facilities, and community programs. It is used to address a wide range of conditions and challenges, including developmental disorders, neurological disorders, mental health issues, chronic pain, and rehabilitation following injuries.

Music is more than just entertainment.

For many of our clients, standard therapies can feel like hard work. Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) taps into the brain's natural response to rhythm and melody to bypass blockages. Whether it is helping a child find their voice or helping an adult relearn to walk after a brain injury, we use evidence-based musical interventions to achieve non-musical goals.

Music therapists undergo specific training and education to understand the therapeutic applications of music and to work effectively with diverse populations. The field is guided by professional standards and ethical considerations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients. The ultimate goal of music therapy is to enhance the overall quality of life and promote holistic wellbeing through the transformative power of music.
